In Tokyo, "ghouls" who eat human flesh are hiding. Simple college student Ken Kaneki stays away from all this, immersed in books. But his life changes when a beautiful girl named Rize invites him on a date.
While leaving home, it is revealed that Rize is actually a ghoul and she had come to eat Kaneki. A fierce fight ensues, and when Kaneki regains consciousness in the hospital, it is revealed that the organs of the murdered Rize have been implanted into him.
Now Kaneki has become half human, half ghoul. In this bloody battle between the ghouls and the government that is killing them, he tries to save his humanity somehow.
