Murder and evil are rampant everywhere in the human world, while the world of the gods of death (Shinigami) has become completely boring. A bright student, Light Yagami, and the god of death, Ryuk, are both fed up with their own worlds.

For fun, Ryuk drops his “Death Note” into the human world. Light finds it, which says that whoever’s name is put in it will die. At first, he finds it amusing, but upon writing the name of a criminal, he truly dies.

Armed with this dangerous power, Light calls himself “Kira” and sets out to cleanse the world by killing all evil. But then he encounters the world’s greatest detective, “L.” A mind game begins between the two, one that will only end with the death of one of them.
