During the cold winter of his first year of middle school, Arata Kouda meets a strange creature that looks exactly like a bird. Its name is Kujima. Kujima was hungry, so Arata takes it into his home—but perhaps he had no idea how quickly this guest would become a part of the family. There's already a tense atmosphere at home, as Arata's older brother has failed the entrance exams. Taking advantage of this confusion, Kujima moves in as a "freeloader."
